EWTCA would like to inform that Algirdas Šakalys, President of the EWTCA, participated in the 76th General Session of the Inland Transport Committee of the UN/ ECE in Geneva on 25-27 February, 2014.
Participants of the General Session discused strategic questions of a horizontal policy nature: innovations for sustainable inland transport and mobility (including intelligent transport systems), climate change and transport, assistance to countries with economies in transition, environmental aspects of transport, as wel as strategic guestions of a sectoral nature: Euro- Asian Transport Links (EATL), Road safety, Rail transport (unified railway law), development of intermodal transport and logistics, transportation of dangerous goods and other questions.
It is very important to note, that during unformal consultations with Mrs. Eva Molnar, Director of Transport Division of the UN/ECE, it was agreed that the EWTCA will be invited to take part in the Inland transport Committe activity focusing on work in three the Committee structures: Working Party on Intermodal Transport and Logistics; Group of experts on Euro –Asia Transport links and Working Party on Rail Transport.
In early April EWTCA should get the first assignment to revise a draft of the Unified railway law in the pan-European region and along Euro –Asian transport corridor . Thus we will have the opportunity and privilege to make comments and sugestions on the draft.
Also it is very important to note that EWTCA as an NGO will have an opportunity to take part in the discussions of the Committee before making decissions.
